Our Story

SafeHouse Farm Alpacas is an alpaca farm in Barrington, IL, a northwest suburb of Chicago. Step through the gates and you're greeted by confident, happy animals, eager to interact with you. You'll meet alpacas, horses, goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits, turkeys, pigs, and a donkey. As of spring 2023, three miniature Hereford steers have joined our barnyard. 

SafeHouse Farm Alpacas began 15 years ago, breeding the highest quality of alpacas and improving the national herd. Our current herd is a mix of pet, hobby, and show-quality alpacas. We continue to breed for fineness and have evolved into a mentoring and teaching farm. Our goal is to help those with alpacas learn best practices and assist those thinking about starting an alpaca business. We strive to educate visitors about all the animals on our farm, including proper care, handling, and feeding techniques. We believe interacting with our animals builds compassion, confidence, and understanding.
